Returning home to your authentic self
I know what it feels like to struggle. A lack of self-worth and feelings of hopelessness led me to my first therapist’s couch. I was surprised to learn that while I had a lot of insight, I didn’t really know how I felt. I could intellectualize, but I wasn’t embodied. So began my journey to come back to my body, the body that had been supporting and sustaining me all along.
My own transformation showed me that real, lasting change has to involve the body. This approach now informs my work as a clinician. Healing begins with finding safety in the here and now and that translates to safety in the body. We lived in a body before we were able to speak words. She has so much wisdom.
What does this mean for you? It means that you’re going to have a therapist that won’t only be curious about what you’re thinking, but also what you’re feeling. A therapist that looks at the whole picture and not just your symptoms.
